Project: “Crazy Pirates”

I have added a small project description page for "Crazy Pirates", a game we - some colleagues and I - made at the HTL Perg for advertising purpose. Enjoy!

KindleDX: Second Impression

Today the sun was shining on our winter wonderland. So I took my KindleDX and moved to the winter garden to test reading in direct sunlight. It was amazing the display acted like normal paper, only slight reflexions - but not disturbing when reading. I also tested my concept papers for a university project and it was displayed with perfect contrast.

My all in all conclusion: The KindleDX is the perfect reading device for my purposes. It's lightweight and very robust to light and reflexions.

KindleDX: First Impression

Last week I got my new KindleDX and I really like it (first day: Lord of the Rings - Book 1 read...). The reading quality is amazing. I tried to read with my room lights on and in daylight, there is no problem with reflexions or light situations where reading an LCD notebook is impossible. The Global Wireless feature is usable but in Austria it is a bit slow. The roaming feature of the built-in AT&T mobile connection often chooses the slowest connection in my area (3G is available).

The new PDF feature is a very nice thing. I put all my stuff for my master thesis on my Kindle to read while on train, bus or at university. In Kindle documents it is possible to make annotations but in PDF documents it is not possible for reasons unknown. If Amazon added this feature, the Kindle would be a perfect business device for reading contracts or documents (silent feature request).

The battery last very long, I played around the whole weekend and my battery is at 75% (wireless off). This week I will try documents with more pictures to test the quality of the display for software design and concept papers. I going to post some information on that later this week.

Dream.Build.Play 2010

I joined this year's Dream.Build.Play contest. There are two contests this year, but if you design your game in a general way, you can submit it to both contests. The two categories this year are the standard DBP contest and a contest for a branded game. I decided to build my game for both categories. So I adopted my current project to support the brand "Old Spice".

Enough of general information, let's focus on my project. My project is called Spiced Journey. It's an point-and-click adventure for Xbox 360 built on my TinyAdventure Tool and XNA. The story is about a secret located on two locations defined in the contest rules. The game focuses on jokes and funny ideas. I'll provide more information later with screen shots and a brief look on the story. The only thing I want to say for now is, that my test players had to laugh very much, when they read the story script.

So just keep reading and receive more information about the project.

Switching to English!

For some reasons I will continue blogging in English. Hope you will follow in future. This is the first step to provide more technical information to the rest of the world.

See you soon on my blog.
